Science and engineering programs heavily prioritize technical skills, making their language thresholds relatively lenient. However, if you aim to dash for top-tier universities such as Tsinghua University or Shanghai Jiao Tong University, achieving HSK Level 5 will significantly boost your admission success rate.

Medicine & Pre-med

Clinical Medicine (MBBS Chinese-taught), Traditional Chinese Medicine, Pharmacy

Current HSK Level 4 to 5 (Depending on institutional policies)

These fields involve life sciences and a vast amount of professional jargon. Even if you apply for an English-taught MBBS program, the Ministry of Education requires international students to reach HSK Level 4 proficiency before commencing their clinical internships.

Business & Economics

International Economics and Trade, Finance, Business Administration (MBA), Cross-border E-commerce

Business majors involve intensive case analysis and comprehensive business reports, demanding high proficiency in listening, speaking, reading, and writing. It is strongly recommended to secure an HSK Level 5 certificate before submitting your application.

Liberal arts and social science majors represent the "ceiling" for language requirements. Prestigious universities typically require a solid HSK Level 6 or an Advanced Level under the new evaluation standard.

HSK Threshold

For Chinese-taught programs, undergraduate students and general scholars must reach HSK Level 3 (210 points or above), while master's and doctoral students must reach HSK Level 4 (180 points or above). However, in actual competition for top-tier universities, HSK Level 5 or above is often the practical benchmark for successfully securing a full scholarship.

International Chinese Language Teachers Scholarship (CIS / CLEC Scholarship)

Target of Special Funding

Specifically established for international students who are aspiring to pursue careers in Chinese language education and Sinology research.

HSK Threshold

One-Semester / One-Academic-Year Language Students: Must reach HSK Level 3 (180-210 points or above) + hold a valid HSKK (Chinese Proficiency Oral Test) score. Bachelor's Degree in Chinese Language and Literature: Must reach HSK Level 4 (210 points or above) + HSKK Intermediate Level (60 points or above).
